AIMS & OPPORTUNITIES

The aim of SRP is to provide an opportunity for students from minority sections of the community (Christian, Hindu, Sikh) to do research in their own religious tradition and thereby to obtain a degree recognized by the Government.

A second aim is to provide opportunities for students to obtain accurate information about world religions such as: Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism.

A third aim is to provide a focus for the development of understanding and good relations between persons of different religious traditions in Pakistan.

A further point worth noting is that we do not set out to compare one religion with another. At SRP, we are more interested in entering into the different religions as far as this is possible so that we can view them from the inside, as it were. We make an effort to experience the religions in the way that their various practitioners do and to explain them from their point of view. For this reason, we try to disregard our usual critical tendencies and to listen empathetically to the message of the different religions so as to discover the unique beauty and wisdom hidden in each of these religions.

Graduates from SRP have taken up positions as teachers and lecturers, advisory positions at Government departments, and advisors on social and cultural affairs in NGOs. For example, some of our graduates give regular lectures at Islamic Colleges of Higher Education where they provide their listeners with a broader and more in-depth knowledge about other religions as well as their own.
